African champion Patel upbeat ahead of Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally

KAMPALA, May 9 (Xinhua) -- The reigning Africa Rally champion Karan Patel has warned that he is in Uganda to start the new season in style with a win.

Patel from Kenya is among the foreign drivers who will take part in the 2024 Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally from May 10 to 12 in the eastern towns of Jinja and Buikwe.

"I know it is going to be very competitive because every driver wants to start the season with a win as you have the chance to accumulate points. But we have prepared well enough and the car is also responding well," Patel told Xinhua on Thursday.

Patel made it clear that it will be very important to make a good start on Friday in the super special stage. "A Rally is always won from the start to the finish. A good start gives a driver a good advantage," he added.

The three-day event is the opening leg of the six African Rally Championship (ARC) races and has five scoring points in the ARC category.

Other events on the ARC 2024 calendar are the Equator Rally, Zambia International Rally, Tanzania Rally, Burundi International Rally and Mountain Gorilla Rally.
