U.S. dollar ticks down

NEW YORK, May 1 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar weakened in late trading on Wednesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, lost 0.44 percent to 105.752 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro rose to 1.0730 U.S. dollars from 1.0678 U.S. dollars in the previous session, and the British pound advanced to 1.2549 U.S. dollars from 1.2503 U.S. dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 157.12 Japanese yen, lower than 157.70 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar dropped to 0.9163 Swiss francs from 0.9192 Swiss francs, and it decreased to 1.3707 Canadian dollars from 1.3761 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar was down to 10.8983 Swedish kronor from 11.0069 Swedish kronor.
