DHAKA, May 1 (Xinhua) -- The historic May Day was observed Wednesday in Bangladesh in a befitting manner as elsewhere across the world with a fresh vow to establish the rights of workers.

The main program of the day was held in the Bangabandhu International Conference Center here, with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurating the program.

Addressing a discussion as the chief guest, Hasina asked the mills and factory owners to pay special attention to the laborers' welfare.

Also, various public and private organizations hosted conferences, seminars, marches and walks to honor the ultimate sacrifices of laborers.

National newspapers published special supplements marking the day.
