New motor vehicle sales in Russia surge 60 pct in 2023

ST. PETERSBURG, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- Sales of new motor vehicles in Russia in 2023 increased by 60 percent compared to 2022, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade said on Friday.

A total of 1,319,351 new motor vehicles were sold in Russia in 2023, including 1,056,397 cars. The calculation also took into account sales of light commercial vehicles, trucks and buses.

Half of the new motor vehicles sold in 2023 were domestically produced, the ministry said.

Sales of new passenger cars rose 62 percent year on year to 1.056 million units, while that of light commercial vehicles decreased by 35 percent to 105,000 units, figures released by the ministry showed.

Lada Granta topped the list of new motor vehicles sales, with 191,074 cars sold in 2023, followed by Haval Jolion, with 48,980 vehicles sold in the same period, according to the ministry.
