BRUSSELS: The European Parliament adopted on Wednesday (April 19) a law that bans the import of products contributing to deforestation, the Turkish news agency Anadolu.

With 552 votes in favour, 44 against and 43 abstentions, EU lawmakers approved the new act that only allows products to be sold in the EU if the supplier can prove that "the product does not come from deforested land or has led to forest degradation" by a "due diligence" statement, the EU legislative body said in a statement.
