Drought, conflict displace 3.8 mln Somalis: IOM


MOGADISHU, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- A devastating drought and conflict in Somalia have displaced a record high of 3.8 million people as of early 2023 amid calls for sustainable solutions to help avert the crisis, the UN migration agency, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), said on Tuesday.

IOM Deputy Director General for Operations, Ugochi Daniels, said most of the newly displaced might never go back to their places of origin because the land can no longer provide, and insecurity will only increase as competition for the already scarce resources grows.
