2 dead, 4 injured in car accident with wild boars in northern Greece

ATHENS, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Two people died and four were injured during a car accident caused by wild boars in northern Greece, local authorities said on Tuesday.

The victims are the 53-year-old driver and the 48-year passenger of a car which crashed onto a police vehicle on Monday night, according to a police announcement.

The police vehicle had veered off course, after colliding with a pack of wild boars near the city of Kilkis. The three policemen inside the car were injured, as well as a 50-year-old woman from North Macedonia.

She was passenger in a third car driven by her husband who avoided the crash with the police vehicle, but the car collided with the animals, flipped and landed in a field, according to the press release.

An investigation into the circumstances of the accident was underway.

Such incidents have increased in recent years in Greece, as the population of wild boars rose during the pandemic due to restrictions affecting hunting, according to local experts.
