U.S. dollar closes flat

NEW YORK, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar was flat at close in late trading on Friday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, was unchanged at close at 89.9700 at 3:00 p.m. (2000 GMT).
