Some businesses on U.S. Long Island boosted by influx of new residents amid pandemic: media

NEW YORK, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Long Island, like other New York City suburbs, is absorbing an influx of new residents due to the pandemic. The newcomers along with residents staying longer in their second homes, contributed to the busier fall season in some businesses, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.

According to the report, sales are up, with Long Island businesses that use Square Inc.'s payment processing services reporting a nearly 11 percent increase in median revenue between Sept. 7 and Oct. 31 compared with the same period last year, the company said, adding that nearly all Long Island businesses that were using Square on March 1 were still active at the end of last month.
