Court orders German gov't to revise nuclear phase-out compensation scheme

BERLIN, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Ruling in favor of Swedish energy company Vattenfall, the German Federal Constitutional Court said on Thursday that Berlin must revise the law that regulates the compensation payments to nuclear power plant operators affected by the country's accelerated nuclear phase-out.

Germany's highest court ruled that changes to the country's old nuclear exit law that sought to regulate the compensation back in 2018 were "unreasonable" and never came into force due to formal deficiencies. "Consequently, the legislator is still obligated to enact new provisions as soon as possible," the court noted.
