French shares gain 1.24 pct on Thursday

PARIS, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- French shares edged up on Thursday, with the benchmark Paris CAC 40 up 1.24 percent, or 61.14 points, to close at 4,983.99 points.

Of the 40 selected large companies, 33 gained in the day.

French multinational rolling stock manufacturer Alstom SA advanced 4.19 percent, French banking group Societe Generale rose 3.73 percent. Multinational luxury goods conglomerate LVMH rose 3.54 percent.

Multinational steel manufacturing corporation ArcelorMittal S.A. lost 1.94 percent. French multinational integrated oil and gas company Total SE. lost 1.42 percent. Multinational pharmaceutical company Sanofi went down by 1.31 percent.
