Gunfire shattered the morning calm in Seri Tambun here when a 38-year-old man was shot and wounded outside a row of shophouses after being ambushed by a masked gunman.
The incident unfolded at about 10am on Monday (July 27) after the victim, who has a criminal record, went into a convenience store to purchase some eggs.
As he was about to get into his vehicle, a masked man in a black jacket emerged and opened fire.
In a bid to escape, the victim dashed into a nearby eatery.
However, the gunman gave chase, continued shooting and the victim was shot on his right hand.
The suspect then fled the scene in a waiting car.
The victim was taken to Hospital Seberang Jaya, where he is receiving treatment.
South Seberang Perai OCPD Supt Jay January Siowou confirmed the shooting and said 1a statement on the incident would be issued soon.
