QuickCheck: Did a woman jump out of a moving car in Kedah?

IN a move many Hollywood stuntmen would be proud of, a woman has been caught on camera jumping out of a moving car and being dragged for a few metres before regaining her footing and fleeing on foot.

It is claimed that she was attempting to escape from her angry husband, and footage of the incident went viral on social media.

Did events really unfold as claimed?

Verdict:

TRUE

Kuala Muda OCPD Asst Comm Hanyan Ramlan said the woman concerned was making a desperate attempt to get away from her husband, who was in a belligerent mood, to avoid being beaten.

He said the victim claimed she was in her car at a petrol station in Sungai Lalang when her husband pulled up alongside and forced her into his car and started driving away at approximately 6pm on Wednesday (Nov 12), Sinar Harian reported.

"A struggle occurred, and the victim tried to escape from her husband.

"At the Jalan Lencongan Timur intersection, the victim opened the car door and boldly jumped out because she was afraid of her husband," he said.

ACP Hanyan said initial investigations revealed the couple married in October 2024 and had been living separately for the past month because the victim claimed she was a victim of domestic abuse.

He added the victim's husband had since been remanded for two days.

He added that the case would be investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for intentionally causing hurt and Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act 1994.
