Two motorcyclists suffered minor injuries after their vehicles were hit by a luxury SUV in an accident on Jalan Mount Erskine, George Town, Penang on Thursday (Nov 6).
North East District Deputy OCPD Superintendent Lee Swee Sake said the incident occurred at approximately 8.10am when the luxury SUV driven by a 32-year-old local man came from the opposite direction before entering the lane of an MPV.
"The collision caused the MPV, which was driven by a 48-year-old man, and two other motorcycles to also be involved in the accident," he said in a statement on Friday (Nov 7).
According to him, investigations found that the luxury SUV driver is believed to have tried to avoid another motorcycle that entered his lane before losing control and skidding into the opposite lane.
"Two motorcyclists aged 33 and 48 years old suffered minor injuries, whilst both vehicle drivers did not suffer any injuries," he said.
He added that an examination of the luxury SUV driver's mobile phone found no record of usage during the accident.
"Breath and urine screening tests also confirmed that the driver concerned was free from the influence of alcohol and drugs," he said.
"The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he added.
