QuickCheck: Were four men involved in a fight over a girl in Shah Alam?

All is fair in love and war – an apt saying, considering how people lose their heads over romance.

It is not uncommon for love disputes to explode into instances of criminal behaviour or public disturbances.

Is it true that a group of men fought in the streets of Shah Alam over a woman?

Verdict:

True

Four men, including a senior citizen, who were involved in a viral fight over a woman last week, were fined RM800 each by the Shah Alam Magistrate's Court on Tuesday (Oct 28).

Yap Sin Huat, 69; Che Kim Cing, 44; Gan Yan Ging, 22; and See Yi Boon, 22, all pled guilty to the charges read before Magistrate Muhammad Syafiq Sulaiman.

They were jointly accused of causing a public disturbance in Bandar Setia Alam at around 3.30pm on Oct 23.

The charges, under Section 160 of the Penal Code, carry a penalty of up to six months in prison or a fine of up to RM1,000, or both, if convicted.

During the proceedings, lawyers M. Partiben, Mohd Safwan Saleh and James Chan, who represented the accused, informed the court that their clients were remorseful.

However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Muaz Khawarizmi Azfar recommended a harsher punishment as a lesson and deterrent.

On Oct 24, it was reported that three individuals were detained while another was being sought over a fight at Jalan Setia Y U13/Y, Bandar Setia Alam, Shah Alam, which was sparked by a dispute over a woman.
