QuickCheck: Was a hand grenade left at a counter in KK airport?

THOUSANDS of rushing travellers go in and out of airports daily, often misplacing their property in the midst of the haste.

However, a particular item left behind caused quite a stir at an airport, to the extent that it halted operations.

Is it true that a bomb was left unattended, toying with the emotions of everyone at Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) recently?

VERDICT:

TRUE

A hand grenade left near a counter at the KKIA caused a brief panic and partial halt in operations on Friday (Oct 10).

Kota Kinabalu OCPD Asst Comm Kasim Muda stated that their bomb squad, which was dispatched to respond to the call, later found it to be merely a toy.

The area where the toy was placed was cordoned off, while policemen and airport security kept guard.

“Some child left their toy, which resembled a hand bomb or grenade in the area,” he said when contacted.

ACP Kasim confirmed there was no danger, and operations at the KKIA resumed as normal.

“We are still looking for the person who left this fake bomb there,” he said.
