VERDICT:
TRUE
Tuaran OCPD Supt Noraidin Ag Maidin said police were on the lookout for a suspected cable thief at around 3pm on Thursday (Sept 25).
A patrol team noticed a suspicious vehicle near the CKS Plaza area and approached it, he said in a statement on Friday (Sept 26).
“When our personnel introduced themselves as police, the suspect reversed his car and rammed our vehicle several times to escape,” he said.
The team then managed to break the suspect's car window and pulled him out of the vehicle, he added.
"A brief scuffle ensued but we finally subdued and arrested him," he said.
Supt Noraidin added that minimal force was used and no shots were fired.
He also said the suspect is believed to be involved in several cases of cable theft in the area.
He urged those who witnessed and recorded the incident not to make unnecessary speculation that could affect the investigation.
He also appealed to anyone with information on criminal activities to call the police hotline at 088-794313 or go to the nearest police station.
