A VIDEO circulating on social media has raised concerns after capturing a car being driven recklessly before crashing near Genting Highlands.

The incident has since sparked discussions online about road safety.

Police have opened an investigation following a viral video on social media showing a car driven recklessly before crashing at Kilometre 14.7 heading towards Genting Highlands in Bentong, Pahang, on Sunday (Feb 23).

Bentong OCPD, Supt Zaiham Mohd Kahar, said the 27-year-old driver of the car had lodged a police report at approximately 11.05am at the Goh Tong Jaya Police Station on the same day.

"The man reported that he lost control of the car, which then crashed at the scene," he said in a statement on Monday (Feb 24).

A 12-second video that went viral on TikTok showed the same car being driven recklessly, leading to the accident.

Supt Zaiham emphasised, "The driver's actions were dangerous to other road users."

Police from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Bentong District Police Headquarters have contacted the driver to come forward and provide a statement.

"An investigation paper has been opened, and the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he added.

Superintendent Zaiham urged anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward to assist in the investigation.

He also stated that the police would take stern action and conduct continuous operations to ensure the location and route are not used as a racing circuit by irresponsible road users.
