QuickCheck: Is a 'Padu-filling service' promoted online legitimate?

WITH a recent announcement that those who have registered with the Central Database Hub (Padu) can update their data on the site, the possibility emerges that scammers could seize on this to get people's personal details by "helping" them to enter their details.

Such an ad went viral on social media recently, with an individual offering to help people enter their data into Padu for a fee. Is this service legitimate?

Verdict:

FALSE

The Sungai Petani office of the Statistics Department has issued a statement denying this, saying that it has never appointed any individual or imposed a fee for Padu-filling services.

"The Statistics Department also advises anyone having difficulty filling out their Padu details to go to the nearest Statistics Department offices or to the physical counters at the nearest National Information Dissemination Centre, or Nadi to them," it said in the statement.
