The last thing you want is for something out of the ordinary to happen as it might just make you late for work. Unfortunately for one woman in Melaka, being tardy was the last thing on her mind.

A CCTV recording that went viral on Wednesday (Feb 14) shows a woman being attacked in her car by two men holding machetes in an armed robbery gone wrong.

Melaka police have confirmed that a woman had her left hand seriously injured during an apparent attempted robbery in Masjid Tanah, Melaka on Tuesday (Feb 13).

During the 6.30am incident, the 36-year-old victim was driving to her workplace at a factory when another car obstructed her way, said Melaka OCPD DCP Datuk Zainol Samah in a statement.

"Then two masked men exited the car and approached the victim brandishing machetes," said DCP Zainol.

"They then smashed the side windows of the victim’s car with the machetes and injured the victim's left hand.

"This caused the victim to reverse into the car behind her to escape her assailants.

"She then went to report the incident at the Masjid Tanah police station. It was then that she realised her left hand was badly injured," he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 393 and 427 of the Penal Code for a robbery attempt.

He then urged members of the public who have any information regarding the case to contact the investigating officer, Insp Muhammad Nadzir Abdol Rahman at 017-321 4830.
