QuickCheck: Did a brawl erupt in Shah Alam over relationship matters?

SOCIAL media is abuzz over a group of men fighting near a basketball court in Section 28, Shah Alam, Selangor after the recording spread like wildfire.

In the video, supposedly recorded on Sunday (Jan 21), two men armed with sticks are seen exchanging words aggressively and throwing things at each other.

A young man also claimed that he was attacked by a group of people known to him.

Did such an incident take place?

Verdict:

TRUE

Police said they have received two reports in connection with the incident.

One was lodged at 6.39pm on the day of the incident by a 19-year-old man who claimed he was attacked by six people.

About 30 minutes later, a 25-year-old man lodged another report to say that he was attacked by the teenager and sustained bruises.

The teen was unhurt.

Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said two people, aged 19 and 25, including the second complainant had been arrested at around 3.30am the following day to assist investigations.

He said both suspects had records for drug and criminal offences.

"One of them tested positive for drugs," he added.

ACP Mohd Iqbal said the suspects have been remanded until Wednesday (Jan 24).

They are being probed under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting and possessing weapons, which carries a maximum jail term of five years or a fine or both upon conviction, he added.
