QuickCheck: Did an armed robbery happen at a Kelantan pharmacy as seen in a viral video?


Videos uploaded to social media tend to go viral if they show a dangerous crime taking place, especially when a weapon is used.

Recently, a 32-second video went viral online; it shows a robber armed with a sickle-like weapon holding up a pharmacy.

It is alleged that the now-viral incident is said to have happened in Kota Baru

Is it true that such an incident took place, and that the masked robber made off with the pharmacy's cash box?

VERDICT:

TRUE

Kota Baru OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Rosdi Daud said in a statement that a police report was lodged at about 3.30pm on May 25, the day of the incident.

"The incident occurred an hour earlier at a pharmacy along Jalan Telipot here. The suspect was alone and entered the pharmacy wearing a blue helmet and with his face covered.

"He went to the counter and asked the employees for cash. At the same time the suspect took out a sickle, grabbed the cash box at the counter and cut its cable before escaping.

"At the time, there were no customers inside the pharmacy," he said.

ACP Mohd Rosdi said through CCTV footage, police found that the suspect is about 1.7m tall, dark-skinned and thin. He escaped on an orange motorcycle.

"We are conducting operations in an effort to locate and arrest the suspect. People with any information on the case are asked to come forward to help," he urged.
