A VIDEO has been circulating social media on Thursday (May 25), showing a helmet-clad man wearing a baju kurung as he robbed a convenience store in Sarawak. In the video, a helpless female staff member looked on as the person rummaged through the cash register with a parang in hand.
Is the video current?
On Friday (May 26), Padawan police chief Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said they are on a hunt for a man dressed in a baju kurung who had robbed a convenience store at MJC Batu Kawah in Padawan, Sarawak on Monday (May 22).
He noted that a viral video of the incident was also spotted by the police on Thursday (May 25).
Supt Abang Zainal said the man clad in a baju kurung holding a knife in the video is among the two suspects of a robbery.
"During the robbery, the main suspect entered the premises in women's clothing and a helmet, then brandished a knife at the staff there.
"The suspect then took out the cash register and left the premises in a haste," he said in a statement on Friday (May 26).
Supt Abang Zainal said CCTV footage revealed the suspect left the scene with another suspect who was waiting on a motorcycle.
He said a police report was lodged by the female staff, aged 20 on the same day of the incident.
Following the case, Supt Abang Zainal said a special task force has been formed to track down the suspects.
"The Padawan police are currently working with other police districts as well as the Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department.
"Based on their accents, it is believed the suspects are locals. The victims did not sustain any injuries from the incident," he said.
Supt Abang Zainal said the case was being investigated for armed gang robbery under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code.
