QuickCheck: Was a Singaporean woman injured by a snatch thief in Selangor?


IN THE era of smartphones and buildings with CCTV, the recordings of incidents such as the act of snatch theft have become viral videos online.

Recently, a video of a woman being thrown to the ground by a snatch thief went viral after it was uploaded to TikTok, and it is claimed that the victim is Singaporean and that the attack took place near Batu Caves in Selangor.

Did this attack happen as alleged?

In a statement, Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Zainal Mohamed Mohamed confirmed that the incident happened and added that the victim of the crime was a 64-year-old Singaporean woman who was walking with her husband when the attack took place.

He added that the incident happened along Jalan SBC1 in Taman Batu Caves, and said that the thief had snatched the woman's gold chain.

"The assailant was unsuccessful as the chain had snapped and fell to the ground as they fled. The woman sustained light injuries to her knee and right hand. Efforts are underway to track down the suspect," said ACP Zainal.

He then said that the case is being investigated under Section 393 of the Penal Code.
