QuickCheck: Was a car used as a weapon in a fight over a blocked vehicle in Sarawak?

A VIDEO circulating online shows a white car being driven towards a group of men who are fighting, with the passenger joining the melee after the vehicle hits another man.

It allegedly occurred in Sarawak recently. Is this true?

Verdict:

TRUE

According to Padawan OCPD Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad, a fight broke out between two groups of men in a carpark in front of a supermarket in Siburan, Sarawak on Jan 18.

"On Jan 22 at 2.15pm, police detected the one-minute, 24-second video on Malay news portal Majoriti.com.my's Facebook page," said Supt Abang Zainal.

"Upon further investigation, we determined that a report had been made by one of the victims on Jan 18.

"The fight followed a disagreement between those involved over one of their cars being blocked," he added.

He said an investigation paper had been opened and the case was being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means, as well as Sections 148 and 427 for rioting with weapons.

He then advised the public not to speculate about the case and to contact IPD Padawan's Operation Room at 082-862 233 if they had any information regarding the incident.
