QuickCheck: Was a black panther caught prowling in Semenyih?

Panther

LATE last month, it was claimed online that people living in a housing area in Semenyih spotted a black panther prowling in the streets. Is this true?

Verdict

TRUE

Semenyih might be far removed from the fictional nation of Wakanda, but a Taman Pelangi homeowner called the Fire and Rescue Department after the large feline was spotted in the front porch of their house on the afternoon of Sept 30.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said they received a distress call at 3.32pm.

"We were informed that a black panther was spotted roaming the neighbourhood and was seen at the front porch of a house.

"We immediately dispatched a fire engine, a utility vehicle and five firemen to the scene," he said.

The animal was later tranquilised before it was caged and handed over to the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan). No one was injured in the incident.
