A NUMBER of 'ads' have appeared on WhatsApp saying that Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has launched a "Bantuan Lesen Memandu Percuma Buat Semua Golongan" programme offering free driving licences.
Is this true?
According to the Road Transport Department (JPJ), the advert promising free driving licence is fake.
The Department said in a statement on its Facebook page that it had received numerous reports concerning the "programme" and had warned the public not to fall for the scam.
According to the statement, the scammers had misused the name and picture of the PM to promote the scam to unwary victims.
The fake ads asked victims to sign for the programme online and even encouraged them to follow the WhatsApp group set up for the scam.
JPJ said it took the issue very seriously and that it had already made a report to the police as well as the Malaysian Communications & Multimedia Commission.
