PICTURES are circulating online of the southbound lane of the North-South Expressway (NSE) near Ipoh smeared red with sardines. Did this really happen?

Verdict:

TRUE

According to authorities, a lorry carrying a load of sardines overturned on the highway which led to the road being temporarily closed to traffic near the Menora Tunnel to Ipoh.

In a tweet, PLUS Malaysia Bhd said that traffic was backed up for three kilometres with southbound traffic being diverted to the Kuala Kangsar exit.

The accident caused thousands of cans of sardines to be scattered across the highway with many of them ruptured.

Kuala Kangsar district police chief ACP Omar Bakhtiar Yaacob said the road would be reopened after the clean-up is done.
