QuickCheck: Did 30 inmates escape from Sungai Udang Prison?

ACCORDING to a message circulating on WhatsApp, 30 inmates from the Sungai Udang Prison in Melaka have successfully escaped.

The police released a statement on their Facebook page last Thursday (July 28) denying the claim, calling it fake news.

Melaka Central Police Chief, ACP Christopher Patit said, the matter had also been confirmed by the Prison Superintendent, Supt Mohd Saizi Ibrahim.

"Regarding that, members of the Sungai Udang Prison will also file a police report regarding the viral allegations that 30 of their prisoners had managed to escape.

"The public is advised not to spread such false news which can only cause panic in the community," he added.
