THERE are claims that mamak restaurant owners are practising cartel-like methods by providing capital for other traders to open eateries. Is this true?
The Malaysian Muslim Restaurant Owners Association (Presma) has denied such allegations as baseless.
Presma president Datuk Jawahar Ali Taib Khan said all restaurant owners were operating on their own and not through a cartel as alleged.
"Such allegations are completely unfounded due to the fact that restaurant owners, whether new to business or adding business networks with their own initiative and efforts, are not determined by the cartel as described,” he said in a statement on Thursday (May 26).
