A VIDEO of a man waving a gun in the air while dancing to music in a shopping mall has gone viral. Did this really happen?
Verdict:
TRUE
The man was actually a cosplayer participating in the Anime Fest @ Paradigm Mall, a comic book, computer game, cosplay and anime convention that ran from May 12 to 16.
The cosplayer was dressed as a character from the 2004 computer game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, called Big Smoke.
Unbeknownst to the cosplayer, the police do not take too kindly to people walking around in public with replica or toy guns.
When contacted, Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhruddin made it clear that once it leaves a confined event space, anything that can be construed as a firearm would be viewed seriously by the police.
"I understand it’s an anime festival and if it is within the private space and the proper permits are done for that event, the police are ok.
"But when you take it out in public then that is not allowed.
"Even if colour tape is attached to it, if it’s in public the police can take action," he said.
ACP Mohamed Fakhruddin went on to say that the police were in the process of tracking down the cosplayer.
