RECENTLY, a complaint was lodged with the Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) that a person going by the name of "Mohd Azim Abdul Aziz" had called up the complainant.
The complainant reported to the MCMC that this "Mohd Azim" had claimed to be from the Commission, and added that the person had claimed the complainant's phone line had been used to send gambling and pornographic links to all telephones in Negri Sembilan.
Are people trying to impersonate MCMC officers?
VERDICT:

TRUE
In a statement on Thursday (May 12), the Commission said that the public should be wary of people impersonating MCMC officers claiming that the person they contacted had committed an offence.
Speaking about the report involving "Mohd Azim", the MCMC added that the complainant reported that they were required to lodge a complaint within 30 minutes, failing which, the complainant's telephone line will be blocked and blacklisted by the service provider.
"This is to inform that the individual in question, Mohd Azim Abdul Aziz, is not an MCMC staff member and has never served the Commission," said the MCMC.
According to the MCMC, any announcement or notification on a matter related to the Commission is usually made through official channels such as its website or social media platform, and not through the use of individual names, using dubious language and private mobile phone numbers.
It also said that any such calls should be reported to the relevant authorities.
