BNP chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia has been released from prison after 776 days.
The government, through an executive order, released her yesterday for six months on the condition that she would stay at her home in the capital Dhaka and not leave the country.
The 74-year-old was sentenced to five years in jail on Feb 8,2018, over the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case. On Oct 30,2018, the High Court raised her jailtime to 10 years.
In another corruption case, a court jailed Khaleda and three others for seven years on Oct 29,2018.
The High Commission rejected her bail petition three times and the Supreme Court once. — The Daily Star/ANN
