Three Philippine airlines have cancelled flights to and from China as part of efforts to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus that has so far killed nearly 300 people. Philippine Airlines (PAL) said it was reducing flights to China by 50% until April 1. - Reuters

MANILA: Three Philippine airlines have cancelled flights to and from China as part of efforts to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus that has so far killed nearly 300 people.

Philippine Airlines (PAL) said it was reducing flights to China by 50% until April 1.

Budget airline Cebu Pacific Air said all flights between the Philippines and Beijing, Shanghai, Xiamen, Guangzhou and Shenzen were being cancelled from Feb 2 to March 29.

AirAsia Philippines said it was no longer offering flights to Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Macau and that the measure would be in place until March 1.

For the record, Hubei Province, hit hard by the virus outbreak, has gained approval from the central authorities to further extend the holiday.

Many cities have also asked companies to postpone business operations to curb the epidemic.

A total of 259 people had died and more than 12,000 confirmed cases of novel coronavirus infection had been reported in 31 provincial-level regions in China. - dpa/Asian News Network
