After an early confrontation, the highly anticipated battle of the television anchors – one from Chinese state media and the other a Fox Business host – turned into a polite and rather bland exchange.

But China’s Liu Xin – one of the highest profile anchors at China Global Television Network (CGTN), the international arm of the Chinese state broadcaster CCTV – was no doubt pleased with the opportunity to relay Beijing’s stance on the trade war and China’s economy to an unprecedented American audience.
