A NEW government study has found that influenza is a major killer in this republic, with close to 600 people dying from the disease every year, despite the absence of a clear flu season here.
The Health Ministry has found that the problem is as serious as in temperate countries that are plagued by annual flu epidemics, and said that vaccinations for at-risk groups could save hundreds of lives each year.
