Search on for missing seaman

RESCUERS are still searching for a Filipino crewman reported missing from the Malaysian-registered vessel Everise Glory, which sank following Saturday’s collision with a container vessel about 14km north-east of the Horsburgh Lighthouse near the south-west coast of the republic.

The navy, coast guard and two salvage crafts are searching for Chief Officer Rogelio Dres Desamito, 51, a Filipino national who joined the crew about two months ago.

Five of the 23 remaining crew members were treated at Changi General Hospital for minor external injuries and all had been discharged on Saturday evening.

The container vessel had left Shark’s Bay in Western Australia seven days ago carrying marine salt to the republic.

The collision occurred at 11.45am, less than five hours before the Everise Glory was due to arrive at Jurong Port.

The other vessel involved, the Taiwan-registered container Uni Concord was headed for Bintulu in Sarawak. – The Straits Times/ ANN
