TOKYO: Three Japanese died and 22 others were hospitalised here and in neighbouring prefectures after choking on sticky rice cakes traditionally eaten during the New Year holidays, officials said yesterday.
Kihei Kurosawa, 80, choked to death on a mochi rice-cake on Sunday morning at his home in Saitama prefecture north of here, said Honjo city fire department official Hidenobu Hayashi.
