NEW DELHI: An Indian census based on religion showed rapid growth in the number of Muslim people, a trend an analyst said on Tuesday could exacerbate friction with the majority Hindu community.
The figures could provide fodder for Hindu hardline groups, who fear an increase in Muslim numbers could threaten their dominance, said political analyst Achyut Yagnik, who runs a non-governmental organisation in the western city of Ahmedabad.
