BANGKOK: Thailand has backed down in the face of a public outcry and halted controversial plans for open-field trials of genetically modified food.
Environmental activists had condemned moves to relax genetically modified organism (GMO) regulations and the government confirmed yesterday the trials would be delayed or even abandoned pending the results of a further study.
