Three men held over illegal drugs
SINGAPORE: Two Taiwanese men and a Singaporean have been arrested on charges related to the importation of illegal drugs and could face up to 20 years in jail, police said.A statement on the Central Narcotic's Bureau's website said police operatives seized 20,000 tablets of the sedative Erimin-5 from the suspects after they moved in for the arrest at a hotel here on Thursday.
Police said earlier investigations showed the illegal drugs had come from a Taiwanese syndicate and sold in the local market by the alleged trafficker, a 55-year-old male Singaporean. – AFP
Temporary import ban
HONG KONG: Hong Kong has temporarily suspended the import of live birds and poultry meat from South Africa after the avian flu was reportedly detected in ostriches, the government said yesterday.The ban – which affects about 0.1 tonne of 800,000 tonnes of poultry meat imports each year – will remain while officials obtain more information from the South African authorities, Health, Welfare and Food Bureau spokesman Sally Kong said. – AP
HAL wins Airbus deal
NEW DELHI: India's state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has won a multimillion-dollar contract to export supplies to European air giant Airbus, a statement said yesterday.The US$84mil (RM320mil) contract covers the supply of parts for the Airbus A319, A320 and A321 aircraft, an Indian Defence Ministry statement said.
The statement expressed hope that the contract “will open new avenues of cooperation and lead to a long-term partnership with HAL” and Airbus. – AFP
