BEIJING: China's security tsar has quietly ordered that fewer executions be carried out, independent sources said yesterday, in keeping with the kinder, gentler image the leadership has tried to portray.
The London-based human rights watchdog Amnesty International recorded 2,468 executions in China in 2001, more than the rest of the world put together, based on state media reports.
