DURING the past year, nearly 2,000 cataract patients in poor and remote areas in Shantou, south China’s Guangdong Province, regained their eyesight after receiving free treatment from the nationwide Sight First China Action.
The programme was launched in 1997 by the Health Ministry, the China Disabled Persons’ Federation and the Lion’s Club International, one of the world’s largest charity organisations.
