MANILA: Philippine officials yesterday tried to squelch rumours – most flashing by cell-phone text messages around a jittery Manila – of further military mutiny in the wake of last week's failed uprising.
Officials said the false rumours were being spread by the backers of the July 27 mutiny to create instability and weaken President Gloria Arroyo's administration.
