THE 1st Guards battalion is the Singapore Armed Forces’ (SAF) Best Combat Unit, the first time it has won the highly-coveted honour in its 35-year history.
Winning the award fulfils the vision the unit’s commanding officer Lieutenant-Colonel Nelson Yao, 36, had when he took over 1st Guards in Jan 2001.
