JAKARTA: Indonesian students and workers clashed with police outside the presidential palace here yesterday in the first violence in four straight days of protests against increases in fuel and electricity prices.
About 2,000 protesters were shouting slogans outside the palace when some started throwing rocks at hundreds of police standing behind barricades in front of the colonial-era building. Police responded by beating some protesters with rattan sticks.
