Woman nabbed for allegedly bribing cop to help friend in detention

JOHOR BARU: A woman has been arrested for allegedly offering a traffic policeman RM1,500 to avoid action being taken against her Indonesian friend.

The unemployed woman, in her 30s, was detained at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Batu Pahat branch office at about 11am on Wednesday (Nov 4), according to a source.

The source said the woman allegedly offered the bribe as an inducement for the policeman not to take action against her friend, who had been detained for an offence under Section 6(1) of the Immigration Act.

Her friend was said to be in possession of an expired passport.

Johor MACC director Datuk Hazrul Shazreen Abd Yazid confirmed the arrest and said the case was being investigated under Section 17(b) of the MACC Act 2009.
