BN candidate pledges upgraded rest stops

ALOR GAJAH: Barisan Nasional’s Lendu candidate Datuk Abdul Hakim Abdul Wahid has promised better facilities at two rest stops in Masjid Tanah after e-hailing drivers and delivery riders raised concerns over their poor condition.

Abdul Hakim said the drivers and riders had highlighted the lack of proper resting areas, water supply and electricity during a meeting.

“Both sites lack water supply and electricity. The rest stop in Masjid Tanah town is open and has limited space, while the one in Taman Masjid Tanah is just an empty shelter.

“We will look into how we can provide facilities for them,” he said when met after a walkabout in the Lendu constituency.

Abdul Hakim is among eight new faces fielded by Barisan in the state polls.

The 41-year-old will face Bersatu’s Nazri Ramli, who is defending the seat.

He credited caretaker Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh with introducing the rest stops, saying the upgrades would give workers a more comfortable place to take a break.

If elected, Abdul Hakim said he would also work to provide rest stops at more locations so drivers and riders would have more places to take shelter.

He added that e-hailing drivers and delivery riders played an important role in the local gig economy and that their welfare deserved attention.
