SHAH ALAM: A man wanted by the police for impersonating the Raja Muda of Selangor’s aide-de-camp to defraud members of the public is linked to 19 police reports nationwide, with nine cases in Selangor involving losses of nearly RM700,000.
Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the 40-year-old suspect had apparently exploited his friends.
“He is not a palace staff member and has no links to the Selangor royal institution. He is believed to be an ordinary individual who took advantage of his friends to cheat them,” he told a press conference here yesterday.
Comm Shazeli said a woman in her 30s, believed to be the suspect’s fiancee, was detained to assist in investigations.
“We are currently working to locate the prime suspect. We are also tracking down several other individuals believed to have assisted the main suspect,” he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of between one and 10 years, whipping and a fine, upon conviction.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the nearest police station or investigating officer, Sjn Norizuana Saaidin, at 014-717 5567.
In a separate development, Comm Shazeli said four drug trafficking syndicates were busted following five raids in Klang, Rawang and the KL International Airport between Oct 13 and 19.
“Eight suspects, aged between 19 and 48, were arrested in the operations, comprising four locals and four foreigners.
“We seized various drugs worth an estimated RM16.2mil,” he said, adding that the drugs could have been supplied to 801,000 users.
Among the locations raided was a storeroom at an unregistered temple in South Klang, where drugs were believed to have been kept since early this year.
Comm Shazeli said a man who assisted in the temple’s management on a part-time basis was arrested during the raid.
“We are still investigating and do not rule out the possibility that the temple was used as a front for drug storage.
“Initial checks found that it was unregistered, and the land was designated for sewage infrastructure, not a temple,” he said.
The suspects are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, while assets worth RM54,835 were seized.
In another case, police are investigating the alleged abuse of an Indonesian domestic worker in Tanjong Sepat, Kuala Langat, after she suffered burns across her body.
“Allegations that the victim had stolen her employers’ belongings and damaged their property were among the possible motives for the abuse,” said Comm Shazeli.
The case is being investigated under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.
