Five Malaysians arrested with drugs hidden in shoes at Tokyo's Haneda Airport

PETALING JAYA: Five Malaysians have been arrested in Japan for attempting to smuggle cocaine concealed in their shoes at Haneda Airport, Tokyo.

According to NHK World Japan, four of the five suspects admitted to the attempt to smuggle drugs, while the remaining suspect denied the allegations.

Police said on Tuesday (Oct 13) that the seized drugs are estimated to be worth US$757,300 (about RM3.2mil).

Japanese Customs officers at the airport discovered packets of cocaine hidden beneath the insoles of each suspect's shoes during inspections.

One of the suspects, Mohd Danial Farhan Abdul Rahman, told authorities that he met an individual through social media who asked him to transport drugs overseas.

He was offered a substantial sum of money and given the shoes to wear.

Meanwhile, Japanese police and relevant authorities are investigating further to determine if the smuggling involves an international drug trafficking syndicate
